Bristol City look to be in for an uncertain summer after an impressive showing in the Championship last season.

Lee Johnson has done a fine job at Ashton Gate, with his side finishing 11th in the league last year having had a strong campaign that showed signs of flirting with the top two.

It ultimately ended in a top-half finish but City hit the highs and were commended for their strong, positive style of football.

But, the summer could be one that sees City cash in on their success.

If the season were to start now, the Robins could well be one of the favourites for the play-offs.

There is still time, however, in the transfer window for all that to change.

Bobby Reid has been linked with a move to Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion, and a move could well entice the striker. The Baggies would be able to offer him more than what it would cost for City to keep him.

The 25-year-old scored 21 goals last campaign and could well be on his way out of Ashton Gate.

Another potential casualty of the unprecedented success could be talismanic defender Aden Flint.

Flint only signed a new three-and-a-half year deal last December but Middlesbrough are reported to test the resolve of Bristol City with a £5m bid.

If those two were to go that is a major part of the team’s spine separating and causing gaps in the squad that will be difficult to fill, regardless of the calibre of player brought in with the funds amassed should the sales go ahead.

Johnson knows it will be hard to match or better their performance in last season’s Championship campaign, but he will need to use all of his nouse and footballing knowledge.

To try and emulate what the were able to accomplish at Ashton Gate last season will be a difficult challenge in itself, let alone replacing City stars should they leave the club.
