According to Bristol City's Assistant Head Coach Jamie McAllister, Gustav Engvall is closing in on a loan exit.

Bristol City striker Gustav Engvall is set to re-join Djurgarden on loan, Jamie McAllister told BCTV.

Engvall joined Swedish Allsvenskan side Djurgarden on loan last March and scored seven goals in thirteen appearances for them in a profitable spell away from Ashton Gate.

Prior to that, the 21-year-old had struggled to break into the Bristol City side, owing to the success of Tammy Abraham.

The promising young striker teamed up with his Bristol City team mates again ahead of the start of this season and came on as a substitute in the opening game of the season, which resulted in a 3-1 win against Barnsley.

However, he was not included in the match day squad for the EFL Cup victory over Plymouth Argyle because of Djurgarden's approach.

The Sweden under-21 international will return to third place Djurgarden for the remainder of the Allsvenskan season, which has twelve games left.

Assistant Head Coach Jamie McAllister told BCTV:

“Gustav is close to going back to Djurgarden on loan.

“We didn’t play him tonight because we didn’t want to risk an injury with that deal on the cards.

“Gustav is still only young and did fantastically well in the first half of the season for Djurgarden.

"Now he’ll want to produce similar quality for the remaining games of the campaign.”

The Verdict

Gustav Engvall is still young and adjusting to life in England.

I am not sure that another loan spell in Sweden will help him with that; he perhaps needs to be sent out to League One on loan for a while.

However, if he can keep scoring then his confidence, fitness, sharpness and form will be impressive when he returns to Bristol City later this summer.
