FLW understands Cotterill would like Smith to sign a permanent deal

The Fulham striker signed from Leeds on the summer transfer deadline day for an undisclosed fee and joined teammate Ross McCormack at Craven Cottage, following his £11 million move.

Smith struggled for form under ex-Fulham boss Felix Magath and was shifted out on loan to Championship hopefuls Bristol City down in League One, where he struck a golden vein of form and scored seven times in 14 appearances, whilst also winning Bristol City's goal of the season award.

They attempted to make his deal permanent, or at least extend the loan, in January, but Fulham were unwilling to sell under new manager Kit Symons.

He didn't continue is form from League One and again fell out of favour, and it looks like he could be on the move again this summer.

FLW understands Steve Cotterill is keen on adding more strike power to there squad this summer, and has earmarked Matt Smith as the man to do just that.
