Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has confirmed that Gustav Engvall will not be heading out on loan, as reported by the Bristol City official Twitter account.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of this weekend’s clash with Huddersfield Town, Lee Johnson revealed that an injury to Milan Djuric meant that Gustav Engvall’s proposed loan to Djurgarden – which seemed all but sealed – had been cancelled.

Johnson confirmed that Djuric had suffered a double hernia, which would see him ruled out for 3-6 weeks, and that Bristol City need Engvall to cover in his absence.

Lee Johnson revealed:

“Gustav will be brought back from Sweden because we need him with Milan out injured.”

Bristol City are currently occupying the last spot in the relegation zone and are stuck in a relegation dogfight despite an impressive start to the season.

Johnson added that he felt sympathy for the Swedish striker, saying:

“I feel sorry for Gustav. Ideally he would have got an English loan club.”
