Troy Deeney has been a vocal presence for Birmingham since his move to the club and with more game time now coming with the Blues, the side are starting to see even more benefits from the striker - and so is Nigel Pearson, who admitted to the Birmingham Mail that the forward is an 'effective striker.'

The former Watford man decided to part ways from his longtime team over the summer and has now found himself in the Championship with Birmingham. Having spent over ten years with the Hornets and plundered 140 goals in total - across various leagues and cup competitions in England - he was seen as an exciting signing by the Blues.

He is now proving to be just that, with his workrate and finishing ability helping Lee Bowyer's side finally start to pick up more wins.

Despite falling down the table early on, the side have now won their last three league fixtures and are nearing the top half of the Championship table. Deeney himself has helped along the way with two goals and three assists in just ten games so far.

In fact, against Bristol City alone in midweek he managed two assists, as the club turned over the Robins 3-0. It's now led to opposition boss Nigel Pearson heaping praise on the player, calling him an 'effective striker.'

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail about the game, he said: "Troy Deeney was very important for Birmingham, people forget how effective a striker he is. We didn’t deal with the threat from Deeney and Scott Hogan."

His strike partner Scott Hogan managed to get on the scoresheet even if Deeney didn't and the two of them have proven to be a solid pairing in attack so far. It appears as though Birmingham may have found the bite they needed in attack - and going forward, it could help them to start looking up the table rather than down it.

The Verdict

Despite his age, Troy Deeney at this level can get you goals. He is experienced and could arguably still offer something to someone at a lower-end Premier League side.

For Birmingham to have him in their side is a huge boost and he is already proving it. If he can continue this form consistently over the rest of the season, then the Blues should have nothing to worry about when it comes to finding the back of the net.
