Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has said his side need to “make Ashton Gate a fortress” ahead of the visit of QPR on Saturday.

The Robins are without a win in the Championship this season and now face a QPR side who have made a fast start to the 2019/20 campaign.

Under new boss Mark Warburton, the Hoops are fourth in the Championship with four points from their opening two games.

Speaking to the club website prior to the clash, Johnson called on his players to step up.

He said: “I’m up for it, the players are up for it and I’m sure the fans will be up for it.

“We’ve shown really good signs in our previous performances, away from home and we want to take it further and get that win and send everyone home very, very happy.

“We’ve got good players, naturally we’ve had our bumps early in the season but we go into this game building a head of steam and QPR are a good side we respect.

“We need to make Ashton Gate a fortress, be very positive and aggressive on the front foot.”

“It’s always about winning, it never changes and we want to win every single game.

“That competitive element to us as individuals and as competitors, as winners has to come out, whether that be the fanbase giving the new boys as much support as possible or the players taking their chances.

“It’s about executing to the best of your ability and I’m looking forward to seeing what my team can do on Saturday.”

The Verdict

Johnson is on the money with his comments about making Ashton Gate a fortress and sorting out their form at home.

Last season the Robins finished eighth, just four points off the top six, but had the seventh-worst home record of any side in the Championship.

If they can turn their results around at Ashton Gate it may give them the boost they need to push on and qualify for the play-offs.

There may be some added incentive for the hosts as QPR knocked them out of the Carabao Cup on penalties in midweek.
