Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City and Reading are all interested in signing Scotland midfielder James Morrison on a free transfer this summer, according to Sky Sports News' reporter Keith Downie.

The 33-year-old was released by West Bromwich Albion and will become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June.

However, the door could be open for Morrison to return to the club, if the Baggies' new head coach Slaven Bilic decides to make him a part of his plans for next season, after agreeing a two-year deal at the Hawthorns.

Morrison scored one goal in 27 appearances in all competitions for West Brom last season, as the Baggies just missed out on promotion, losing to Aston Villa on penalties in the play-off semi-finals.

The midfielder joined Albion from Middlesbrough in 2007 and was signed by current Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray. He would go on to make 341 appearances for the Baggies, during his twelve seasons with the club.

The Verdict

Morrison is a good player and he'd be a great signing for any of three clubs he has been linked with - especially on a free transfer.

He's got plenty of experience and he proved with his performances for West Brom last season that he still has what it takes to be an important player at this level.

He might not be good enough to start every week anymore, but if he can stay fit, he would certainly be a useful player to have for a lot of teams in the Championship.
