Bristol City are in talks with a potential new signing as they consider strengthening their squad through the free agent market, according to a report from the Bristol Post

The Robins currently have six senior players sidelined with injury issues, greatly limiting the options available to Dean Holden.

The transfer window has now closed but it appears that the South West club are exploring their options in the free agent market.

Holden has told the Bristol Post that exploratory talks began earlier this week and are underway with a potential new addition.

On bringing in a free agent, he said: "We have to look at that, we’ve been looking at that for a couple of days already so we’re ahead of the game with that.

"We need to see what’s out there."

With both Alfie Mawson and Nathan Baker facing long spells out, centre-back is likely a position that City will look to strengthen in.

There are a number of free agents defenders that may be familiar to the Ashton Gate faithful, such as Ashley Williams, but it is believed that former Middlesbrough man Ryan Shotton is unlikely to be the player that joins.

Holden's men were superb before the international break, winning four from four to go top of the Championship, but have taken just two points from their four games since.

They take on Norwich City in the lunchtime kick-off tomorrow.

Are these 12 facts about the Robins’ history genuine or not?

The Verdict

This will likely be music to the ears of City fans.

Injuries have left the Robins squad looking a little thin, particularly at centre-back, and adding some quality from the free agent market would help to solve that issue.

The arrival of Williams worked out well for them last term and you'd expect we may see another experienced defender join their ranks soon.
