Bristol City attacker Callum O'Dowda has revealed that he is still missing midfielder Josh Brownhill after the Robins' talisman made the move to Burnley last month.

Sean Dyche snapped him up for an undisclosed fee with Burnley forward Nahki Wells eventually making the move in the opposite direction, although O'Dowda still feels the 24-year-old's absence.

"It’s football isn’t it," he said during his pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon, reported by Bristol Live (14:24).

"They’re all really good mates (including Sammie Szmodics and Taylor Moore) and I do still speak to them but I’ve got so many other mates in the dressing room.

"I do miss him (Josh)."

QUIZ: Can you name these 15 ex-Bristol City centre-backs?

Brownhill spent three and a half years with Bristol City after moving from Preston North End during the summer of 2016, going on to rack up over 160 appearances and net 17 goals.

He had already bagged five times in 28 games before departing and looked set to be a pivotal member of the Robins' push for promotion this season.

It is a push which has slowed down considerably in recent weeks, with the club sat in seventh place, two points Preston in sixth and 14 behind the automatic spots.

The verdict

The impact of Brownhill leaving was always going to be big, both on and off the pitch, and it remains to be seen whether that will be worth it.

Nahki Wells of course arrived in the other direction but you cannot underestimate how big an impact one player can sometimes have on a team and, of course, what his subsequent departure can also do to a side.

New leaders need to emerge now more than ever because they will need that strong voice on the pitch over these next few weeks.
