Fleetwood’s Jimmy Ryan will leave the club at the expiration of his contract at the end of the month after failing to return to the Trawlermen in time for the start of pre season preparations on Monday.

Ryan has been at the club since 2015, but will look for a fresh challenge this summer after joining from Chesterfield two years ago.

A number of League One clubs will be interested in a move for the player this summer, with Ryan looking to put a torrid 2016/17 season behind him in which he spent the majority of the campaign on the sidelines following a series of injuries.

Ryan began his career with hometown club Liverpool, and has played for clubs including Shrewsbury Town and Scunthorpe United during his 12 year professional career.

A return to the Iron could potentially be on the cards this summer, with boss Graham Alexander reorganising his troops following a play-off defeat to promoted Millwall.

Alexander will look to bolster his squad this summer whilst holding onto his most prized assets, and adding Ryan to the squad would be a solid piece of business.

If Ryan can remain fit, he is a consistent performer, and this is exactly what the Lincolnshire club need to launch another bid for Championship football.

Experienced and ambitious, bringing Ryan back to Glanford Park on a free could prove to be a good decision by Alexander by May next year.
