Plenty of Derby County fans have taken to Facebook to debate whether the club should keep Scott Carson at the club for the 2020/21 campaign.

The goalkeeper's current deal at Pride Park is set to expire in the summer yet the Rams have an option to extend his stay for another year.

Having started last season as Derby's first-choice shot-stopper, the 34-year-old eventually lost his place in the club's starting eleven to Kelle Roos.

With Rams manager Phillip Cocu opting to stick by Roos, Carson decided to join Manchester City on loan last summer where he is currently a back-up to Ederson and Claudio Bravo.

Given that the keeper has yet to make an appearance for the reigning Premier League champions, it will be intriguing to see if Derby are willing to integrate him back into their plans for the immediate future when he returns to the club.

Although Carson is in the twilight of his career, he has illustrated in recent years that he is more than capable of delivering the goods at Championship level.

Having played 260 games in the second-tier, the keeper knows exactly what it takes to succeed in this division and thus may be an upgrade on their existing options as Roos and Ben Hamer have both struggled for consistency this season.
