Charlton Athletic have signed Matt Smith on-loan from Manchester City.

Smith, 20, spent the first-half of the season on-loan at QPR. He failed to have an impact on the first team though, and City recalled the midfielder earlier today having made just 10 appearances in all competitions for the R's.

He'll now spend the rest of the season at Charlton, and becomes the club's second signing of the day after Sunderland's Aiden McGeady also joined until the end of the campaign.

Mark Warburton never gave Smith a real chance in his first-team but he should get more of a look-in under Lee Bowyer. He spent last season on-loan at FC Twente, playing 34 times in Eerste Divisie as Twente won the title.
