Charlton Athletic have announced the appointment of Steve Gallen as the club's new Director of Football.

The new role ends Gallen's time as the club's Head of Recruitment, and gives the 46-year-old more authority with regards to transfers.

The appointment is one of the first significant staff changes at Charlton since Matt Southall was appointed as Chairman, and he is happy with the news.

QUIZ: Can you remember every top Charlton goalscorer from the past fifteen seasons?

“He buys into the model that we’re looking to implement. He’s knowledgeable and he’s got a great track record," Southall said.

“It’s something the chairman and I have been talking about for a few months since I first met him and for it to be officially announced is a really nice thing," Steve Gallen added.

Gallen joined Charlton as Head of Recruitment in 2017, and also briefly had a spell on the club's board of directors.
