Millwall have confirmed they are now allowed to proceed with their stadium development plans for The Den following the local council's termination of a land sale agreement.

The club released a statement where they welcomed news that the conditional land sale agreement between Lewisham Council and Renewal has been terminated, as this will allow the club to develop land surrounding their stadium.

The Lions have been playing their football at The Den since 1993 when the Bermondsey stadium became their new home having played at The Old Den - located quarter of a mile away from the current stadium - since 1909.

Millwall are currently leasing land surrounding The Den, which means the original sale agreement to offshore developer Renewal would have interfered with the club's development proposals.

This recent announcemtn means Millwall can now press on with their development plans as the club looks ahead to the future, and they shared this news via their Twitter account on Friday morning.

Plenty of Millwall supporters responded to the tweet by declaring their satisfaction with the agreement, which will now allow the club to progress its yet-to-be-revealed plans for the stadium's future.
