Leeds United are top of the Championship table heading into the weekend, after Wigan Athletic shared a point with promotion-chasing West Brom on Wednesday evening. 

Marcelo Bielsa's side returned to the summit on Tuesday after a convincing 2-0 win over Hull City at Elland Road, but a win for the Baggies would have moved the Whites back into second.

But Wigan held their nerve on Wednesday, as they earned a hard-fought point to keep Leeds top of the table heading into the potentially season-defining festive period.

The Latics took the lead on the night through a Sam Johnstone own goal, but a bizarre equaliser from Charlie Austin saw the Baggies earn a point to stay in touch with Leeds.

Leeds are ahead of Slaven Bilic's side on goal difference, and they'll be keen to extend their impressive run of form heading into the New Year.

Plenty of the Elland Road faithful were delighted with Wigan's performance on the night which kept them top of the Championship.
