Sheffield United have been handed a significant boost ahead of Monday’s Steel City derby, with Jack O’Connell committing his long-term future to the club.

An announcement has come from the Blades’ official website this morning confirming that O’Connell has agreed a new contract that ties him down at Bramall Lane until the summer of 2023.

O’Connell, 24, has been at the heart of Sheffield United’s rise through the EFL since arriving at the club from Brentford in 2016.

The centre-back has helped the club win promotion to the Championship and has been central to them establishing themselves back in the second-tier.

Now, the Blades are fighting for promotion in the Championship, with O’Connell making 31 appearances as Chris Wilder’s side go in search of Premier League football.
