Brighton are reportedly set to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Aaron Mooy on a season-long loan deal.

The Terriers were relegated from the Premier League last season and it appears that the Australian is set to complete a move that keeps him in the division.

The Argus claimed last night that the Seagulls have been interested in Mooy for some time and, according to Sky Sports, Brighton are now set to sign the 28-year-old after fighting off competition from a string of Premier League sides.

The Sun journalist Tom Barclay has reported that Mooy will make the switch to the Amex Stadium on a one-year loan deal.

The Australia international has been a key player for Huddersfield since joining, originally on loan, in 2016, playing an integral role in the Terriers’ promotion season in 2016/17 and their subsequent two terms in the Premier League.

Mooy has made 120 appearances for the Yorkshire club and contributed 11 goals and 15 assists.

The Verdict

The midfielder is not the first influential member of ex-boss David Wagner's squad to depart this summer after captain Tommy Smith joined Stoke City in July.

Mooy has been an important player for Huddersfield and will certainly be missed in the centre of the park.

He has the class and quality to be a top-flight player so it is understandable that he would seek a move that keeps him at that level.

This looks like a smart bit of business from Brighton, who have signed a creative midfielder that understands the Premier League, with the loan aspect making it low-risk.
