According to a report by The Argus, Brighton & Hove Albion Chief Executive Paul Barber has revealed that the club will not spend big amounts of money in the summer if they do go up.

Brighton and Hove Albion currently have a six point cushion inside the automatic promotion places and are in pole position to finally win promotion to the Premier League.

With 8 games to play (9 for third placed Huddersfield), Brighton will be hoping to get the job done and not have a repeat of their shortcoming last season.

Barber, though, doesn't feel that the club need to splash the cash to survive in the top flight and says that they will continue to be shrewd in their transfer acquisitions.

Barber told The Argus:

"All it would mean is we are fishing in a bigger pond, because we can afford to fish in a bigger pond.

"Clearly then some of those players in that pond previously out of reach in the Championship go into your reach.

“We are still going to be as smart as we possibly can to acquire those players at the best possible prices."

Barber also noted that the club wanted to give something back to chairman Tony Bloom, who has spent £250m on the club.

The Brighton Chief Executive spoke about Crystal Palace's loss and said that being in the Premier League did not necessarily mean earning a profit.
