According to The Mirror, Brighton and Hove Albion have launched a £1m bid to sign Jackson Irvine from Burton Albion.

Jackson Irvine was Burton Albion's key man last season, scoring ten goals from midfield to fire the Brewers to an unlikely survival against all expectations.

Irvine became Burton's record signing last summer when he made the switch from Scottish Premiership side Ross County but his future could be in doubt.

Burton Albion will undoubtedly want to keep their central-midfielder but Irvine has ambitions of playing Premier League football - which is something that Brighton and Hove Albion can offer him.

Brighton won promotion to the Premier League last season by obtaining an automatic spot.

Chris Hughton is looking to strengthen his options to ensure Brighton have a decent chance of survival and Jackson Irvine has been identified as a top target.

Brighton currently have a number of central-midfielders in their ranks: Oliver Norwood, Dale Stephens, Beram Kayal, Pascal Gross and Steve Sidwell are all vying for the starting spots.

However, Hughton still wants to sign Irvine this summer.

The Australian international is in-demand this summer after impressing for the Championship minnows.

Burton Albion face a battle to keep him at the club and Brighton appear to have firmed up their interest with a £1m move.

The Brewers will surely be holding out for a higher fee than this for the 24-year-old though.
