FLW understands that Brighton and Hove Albion have submitted an enquiry for Queens Park Rangers winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.
According to FLW sources, Seagulls boss Chris Hughton is targeting the 33-year-old midfielder and has subsequently put in an enquiry on transfer deadline day to sign the winger.
Wright-Phillips has been at Queens Park Rangers since 2011, but has found first-team opportunities increasingly hard to acquire in recent seasons.
The winger has been at some of England’s biggest clubs, having had spells at Manchester City and Chelsea.
The Greenwich-born midfielder is one of the highest earners at Queens Park Rangers so would seemingly need to take a pay cut to join the Seagulls.
Chris Hughton’s side are struggling in the second tier of English football and currently sit just outside the relegation zone in 21st position.
The club have thus far amassed 29 points from 28 league games, but the signing of Wright-Phillips could add some much needed experience to the beleaguered team.
It is still uncertain whether the former Manchester City winger will want to take the step down to the Sky Bet Championship, but it could be his only opportunity of first-team football this season.
