Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder clarifies speculation about his future

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Dale Stephens has tweeted out about his future at the Amex Stadium following a summer of ongoing speculation linking him with a move away from the south-coast.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Burnley, and reports suggest the top-flight outfit had up to six bids rejected by Brighton throughout the summer for the services of Stephens.

In his statement, the midfielder states that the reports were true of him handing in a transfer request, but to “fulfil his and every footballer’s ambitions of playing in the Premier League.”

The former Charlton midfielder also had a dig at this current club by saying that they “aware for 5 weeks” of his desire to leave the club before admitting that he is “disappointed” that the opportunity to play in the top flight was taken away.

However, Stephens also states that he will honour the time left on his contract, which runs out next summer.

The Bolton-born player made 45 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion last season out, who missed out on promotion after losing to Sheffield Wednesday in the Play-Off semi-finals, but has been limited to just two games so far this campaign.

The Seagulls reportedly rejected a fee of up to £7 million from Burnley on transfer deadline day.

Brighton supporters, what do you make of the saga of Dale Stephens? Does he deserve to stay at the club? Or would you rather he left? Let us know in the comments below!
