Brighton and Hove Albion forward Sam Baldock insists now is not the time to “dwell on the past,” as the race for promotion in the Sky Bet Championship gathers pace, reports the club’s official website.

Back-to-back defeats to Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest had Chris Hughton’s side looking over their shoulders, as Huddersfield Town appeared to be closing in on the automatic promotion places.

Since then Brighton have recorded consecutive victories over Rotherham United and Derby County, and combined with Newcastle United dropping points in their last two fixtures, Hughton’s side are now level on points with the Magpies at the top of the Championship table.

Speaking to the club’s official website about the recent defeats, Baldock said: “I don’t think you can dwell on the past because that’s when you come unstuck. If you don’t pick up the next result, you’re looking back on two bad results.

“If you’re a thinking team or a thinking person, then you’ll be thinking about more problems and potentially more bad results.”

Baldock has been particularly impressive recently, leading the line alongside Glenn Murray and scoring four goals in the Seagulls’ last six fixtures.

Hughton’s side head to Elland Road this weekend, for another tough challenge in the Championship, where they face high-flying Leeds United, who are also looking to secure promotion to the Premier League.
