Brighton & Hove Albion are weighing up a move for ex-Norwich City defender Javier Garrido, according to FLW sources.

The 30-year-old was released by the Canaries along with six others following their promotion to the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the Championship play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday.

Garrido, who plays at left-back, arrived at Norwich on a season-long loan from Lazio in 2012 and the move was turned to a permanent one a year later.

But the Spaniard found first-team opportunities limited following the arrival of Martin Olsson in July 2013 and made just 10 appearances in the last two seasons at Carrow Road.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton is searching for a new left-back as Joe Bennett has now returned to parent club Aston Villa after season-long loan at the Amex Stadium, and FLW understands Hughton is considering offering Garrido a deal at the Championship club.

Bennett is waiting to hear on his future at Villa Park but he might still have a part to play under Tim Sherwood after falling out of favour under former boss Paul Lambert.

If the 25-year-old is no longer wanted by Sherwood, Brighton face stiff competition from Premier League new boys Watford, who are reportedly monitoring his situation at the West Midlands club.
