Brighton have entered the race to sign Bristol City defender Adam Webster this summer, according to the Bristol Post.

The 24-year-old was outstanding for Bristol City last season and scored three goals in 44 Championship appearances for the Robins, as Lee Johnson's side just missed out on a place in the play-offs.

The centre-back was one of the standout players for the Robins last season, after joining from Ipswich Town last summer and his impressive performances have attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs.

The Sun claim that Aston Villa are hoping to sign the defender this summer, while TEAMtalk reported earlier this week that Leicester, Burnley, Newcastle, Southampton and Watford are all also interested.

Bristol City are thought to be open to offers of around £12million for the player, who has three years remaining on his contract at Ashton Gate.

Brighton have now entered the race to sign him, according to this latest report form the Bristol Post, with new manager Graham Potter looking to improve his squad after taking over from Chris Hughton last month.

Bristol City finished eighth in the Championship table last season, four points outside the play-offs and missed out on a place in the top six on the final day of the campaign.

Johnson will be desperate to keep hold of Webster this summer, as he looks to build a team that will challenge for promotion next season, after committing his future to club by signing a new four-year deal last month.

The Verdict

Webster was outstanding for Bristol City last season and it would be a massive blow for the Robins to lose him, especially as the club will potentially be without defenders Jay Dasilva and Tomas Kalas for next season.

Webster could be a good signing for Brighton and would be able to provide good competition for central-defensive duo Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk.
