Brighton and Hove Albion have insisted they are not in any rush to make Aaron Mooy’s loan move from Huddersfield Town permanent, despite interest.

Following the Terriers’ relegation from the Premier League, there were bound to be departures from the John Smith’s Stadium. One of those players who found the exit door was Australian international Aaron Mooy, who left on a season-long loan for Graham Potter’s Brighton.

A loan move at face-value did seem rather odd to see him move up a division, however, it has allowed Huddersfield to retain him while they look to bounce back from their relegation, while the Seagulls can see whether Mooy is worth signing before committing to a transfer fee.

Since signing, Mooy has been very impressive in a Brighton side that have turned a lot of heads under Potter this season, picking up solid results against top sides this season. With that being the case, there was always going to be a clamour to ensure Mooy stayed at the AMEX Stadium beyond this season.

Despite interest in Mooy from other Premier League clubs, as reported by the Examiner on Wednesday, Brighton have reiterated that their stance has not changed on the current deal to keep Mooy until the end of the season, to then push for a permanent transfer in the summer, should they be happy with it.

As quoted in the Examiner, Andy Naylor commented on Brighton’s stance on the matter, stating: "Brighton are relaxed about the situation. They are happy, for now, to have the services of the increasingly influential Mooy for the second half of the campaign.

"Brighton are in pole position to keep Mooy, particularly as his contentment on the pitch is matched away from the playing arena. That will be a leading consideration."

The Verdict

Huddersfield will be best suited to letting Mooy see out the season with Brighton as he is playing very well and continuing this form will only see his value rise for a summer sale, seeing the Terriers receive a huge windfall, compared to rushing a sale now.

Mooy has proven at Huddersfield and Brighton that he is more than capable of Premier League football, and a permanent move is all but certain in the summer with the Seagulls eager.
