Bolton Wanderers might have replaced some of their young players, but the heavy defeats keep on coming. They were soundly thrashed 6-1 by Rotherham this weekend to continue their miserable start to the season.

Even with the likes of Jack Hobbs, Liam Bridcutt and Daryl Murphy in the side, a naive Trotters side were brushed aside by Rotherham, who haven't had the best of starts to their season.

There was one bright spot for the visitors, a goal to cheer. Their travelling support has always been magnificent and it's them who deserve something positive to cling to, even if it is one goal in seven league games.

It was scored by Stoke City loanee Thibaud Verlinden, a fourth-minute opener which gave Keith Hill's side a lead to defend. Ten minutes after, Ben Wiles levelled and from there on in it was one-way traffic.

Verlinden was delighted to get his goal, tweeting: "I’m happy to have made my debut this afternoon, the result isn’t what we wanted but I’m sure as a group we will get stronger every game. Also happy to have scored my first professional goal. We go again on Tuesday."

That brought Trotters' fans out in response, happy to have had something positive to talk about after another horrible afternoon of football.
