An update has emerged regarding Brentford's hunt for new recruits in the remainder of the January window, with attacking reinforcements appearing to remain a priority.

Alan Nixon of The Sun has reported that The Bees are reportedly carrying out final checks on two Championship wingers as they prepare to move for the duo.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, the reporter said: "Brentford. Trying to get very active. Final check on two Championship winger targets tonight."

So far this month only one new first team recruit has arrived in the form of Turkish striker Halil Dervisolglu - although that deal was originally agreed in the summer window.

It is not yet known who the two wingers being targeted by Thomas Frank and co are, but it is understandable that he is looking to bolster the area.

With Sergi Canos continuing his comeback from injury, the club are limited to just Bryan Mbeumo, Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins when it comes to players who are proven out wide - the latter of whom has been deployed down the middle all season.

QUIZ: Can you name the club these 14 ex-Millwall players are playing for now?

The verdict

I would be very pleased if I were a Brentford fan hearing this news.

The front three have been excellent throughout the current campaign and do not need replacing. However, you get the feeling that they are just one injury to any of them away from falling out of promotion contention.

Going after Championship talent is a slight chance of approach for the club, given their usual tendancy to recruit from European lower leagues, but I think it makes sense in this instance.

Brentford need players who will be ready made for Championship football.
