Brentford are still well in the race for promotion, with Thomas Frank and his squad having bounced back well this term after missing out in such cruel fashion at Wembley last season.

The signing of Ivan Toney from Peterborough United has proved to be a master stroke, with the striker's goals having kept his side in the hunt throughout the majority of the campaign.

Making shrewd signings has always been a big strength of the West London club for many years now and in return it has seen them progress both on and off the pitch.

Bringing in players from both Europe and the domestic market has been the strategy that has stayed in place and it has in turn proved to be fruitful with many players eventually being sold on for profit further down the line.

The likes of Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma have been their biggest recent sales and it is a trend that is sure to continue for as long as it proves successful for the Bees.

Here, we take a look at Brentford's top 10 most expensive signings according to Transfermarkt and examine where they are now.

The now Aston Villa centre back previously arrived at Griffin Park from fellow London club Charlton Athletic and went on to become a key performer for the Bees before making the move to the Midlands. Both quick and good in possession, Konsa has been touted for an England call up in recent weeks following his good showings for Dean Smith's men and could well be ready to make the step up in the near future. Now aged 23, the towering defender still has his prime years ahead of him and if he keeps it up, he could well be on the move once more.

The skillful Spaniard has been almost ever present for Brentford since arriving from Norwich City and has really excelled this season under Frank. He has bounced back from his injury problems well and has made the spot on the left hand side of the three man attack his own following the departure of Said Benrahma to West Ham United last summer. Still only 24, Canos will be seeking to continue his fine form into the last few months of the campaign as the Bees continue to push for a Premier League promotion, which is something they have been longing for since the former Liverpool man first joined up.

Now plying his trade out in Turkey out on loan with Galatasaray, Dervisoglu has largely failed to settle in West London since making his move to England from Sparta Rotterdam and once again finds himself out of favour and as a result in the midst of a temporary spell away from the Brentford Community Stadium. A versatile forward who can operate in a number of roles across the attack, the 21-year-old is still very much learning his trade and could be a good prospect for the future if the club chooses to keep him on past the end of the current campaign.

The signing of Pinnock from Barnsley is a shining example of how well the Bees operate in the domestic market and as a result the left sided centre half has become a key member of the side since making the switch to West London. In and out of the side for much of the season, it has been a challenging campaign for the 27-year-old, however he is still a vital member of the current Brentford squad and his presence will prove important as the club seeks to finally achieve their long term goal of gaining promotion to the top flight.

Arguably one of the Championship's best goalkeepers, Raya has seen his game come on leaps and bounds since swapping Blackburn Rovers for the Bees and has formed part of the spine of the team for the best part of two seasons now. A brilliant shot stopper and sweeper when the ball is at his feet, the Spaniard is a model of the modern goalkeeper and has been linked with a move to the Premier League in times gone by. Many fans of the club will be hoping that he gets to the top flight with Brentford and it will be interesting to see if he stays put this summer if they miss out again.

The Danish midfielder is one of a plethora of Scandinavian talent that has come into the club since Frank's tenure began and has been an important member of the squad since his arrival from Fiorentina. Now aged 27, the playmaker is amongst one of the oldest and most experienced members of the squad and continues to have a strong influence on his teammates after arriving last term. Capable of playing in various midfield roles depending on the wants and needs of the team, Norgaard is best known for his wide variety of passing and is able to pick out an offensive pass at will as well as making vital tackles to win back possession.

Another technically gifted Dane, Jensen has excelled since arriving from Celta Vigo of Spain and is now a key cog in the Brentford midfield. Capable of controlling possession with his wide array of passing skills, the 25-year-old has also added goals and assists to his game this term and has contributed heavily in the final third of the pitch this term. Often dropping deep to start attacks for his side, the silky playmaker has a habit of making key passes and is prone to switching the play quickly in order for his side to gain an advantage when on the attack.

Up there as one of the division's best goalscorers at present, many people are running out of superlatives for the talented frontman as he continues to impress many with his goalscoring exploits since arriving from Peterborough at the beginning of the campaign. Now being tracked by several clubs higher up the pyramid, the Bees will be all too aware that promotion may be the only thing that will satisfy their player's desires as he continues to show that he is ready made for the Premier League after developing his all round game heavily in the Football League since departing Newcastle United previously.

A legendary figure for both Brentford and former club Leeds United, the Swedish centre back continues to be an important member of the squad and will be desperate to test himself at Premier League level if the Bees can clinch what has been a much fought for promotion to the top flight this term. Now into his 30s, Jansson still provides the assurance of calm at the back and is a great operator in possession of the ball, thus adhering to the demands of Frank's playing style at the Brentford Community Stadium. The Swede's presence will without doubt prove to be crucial as his side continues their run in.

The talented French winger has been a revelation since arriving from Troyes and continues to cause havoc in the Championship after signing for the Bees at the start of last season. The last remaining member of the famed 'BMW' frontline, Mbeumo has taken on more of a staring role this term and has become even more important to his team's chances of promotion following the departures of Benrahma and Ollie Watkins to West Ham and Aston Villa respectively. He is also a player who could be on the move come the summer if his side fails to reach the Premier League for a second season running.
