Brentford boss Thomas Frank has claimed that Leeds United are the best side in the Championship after their 1-1 draw at Griffin Park yesterday.

The Whites arrived in West London last night in dreadful form, having won just once since the turn of the year and without a victory in the capital since 2017.

But Marcelo Bielsa's side looked back to their best against the Bees, with Kalvin Phillips returning from suspension to produce a dazzling performance for them in the centre of the park.

Despite the Whites' dominance, a slip from Kiko Casilla handed Brentford the lead in the 25th minute.

Leeds wobbled for a few minutes but took control of the game once more and pulled level seven minutes before the break.

This time it was the Bees keeper, David Raya, who made the mistake, failing to deal with a corner and allowing Liam Cooper to smash in an equaliser.

The visitors continued to dictate play after the break but struggled to create any clear cut chances and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the game, Frank told the Yorkshire Evening Post that the Whites were the best side in the division but insisted the draw was a fair result.

He said: "It was a 1-1 or maybe even a 0-0 game. A game of few chances for both teams in this game.

"We knew it would be a very intense game with two very good sides. You could see the intensity in the duels, in the one v one situations and recovery runs. It was not the best played game I think in general, but an intense game."

That result sees the Bees move up to fourth place ahead of Fulham's clash with Millwall this evening.

The Verdict

This seems a fair assessment from Frank.

Leeds looked back to their best at Griffin Park last night and certainly controlled the game but they didn't create enough good chances to win the game.

Nottingham Forest's slip up means that a draw is not a bad result for either side, though a win could have been a huge step toward automatic promotion.

Five points separate the top four ahead of West Bromwich Albion's game against Reading this evening–it looks as though it is going to be a tight race for those coveted top two places.
