Brentford could send a youth team to play Bolton if the game is to be played next week after it was postponed on Saturday.

The Trotters playing squad decided to take a stand by refusing to play against the Bees as they still wait for their March wages to be paid following the uncertainty surrounding the club.

The matter is still to be resolved, meaning they couldn't reschedule the fixture for this week.

That means the only time they will be able to play the game is after Sunday, which is the last regular day of the season for the Championship, with EFL rules stating a game can be played up to four days after the final fixtures of the campaign.

Therefore, the EFL will push to get the game played before May 9, which could see Bolton field a youth team if the senior players are still not paid.

And, the Mail report that Brentford will follow suit as they don't want to keep their first-team back after the end of the season to play a game potentially against kids.

They also state that the London outfit had expected the fixture to be played this week.

The Verdict

This is an embarrassing situation for the league to be in and the reality is that we could see two youth teams play next week in what's supposed to be a Championship game.

You can understand Brentford's stance though as they've got nothing riding on the game and it's not their fault that this situation has come about.

Hopefully something is sorted or they could just award the game to Brentford as it really doesn't need to be played given the position of both clubs and Bolton have bigger things to worry about right now.
