Football League World head to Griffin Park this evening for the top-six clash between Brentford and Nottingham Forest.

With West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United suffering from difficult form around the turn of the year, the gap between the top two has narrowed meaning an automatic promotion spot is certainly not out of the question for either team.

Forest and Brentford look two of the most likely sides to be tussling to take advantage if either Leeds or the Baggies do slip up in the run-in.

With that in mind, a clash between the two sides should allow them to examine their true promotion credentials and looks an enthralling prospect.

After losing key players in the summer and taking a little while to warm up, Brentford now look a serious outfit.

Thomas Frank's side have the best defensive record in the Championship and are led by one of the division's most potent strikers, Ollie Watkins.

They come into the game with three victories in their last five league games and have made Griffin Park something of a fortress of late, winning their last seven Championship home games.

Forest are in a strong vein of form themselves, unbeaten in their last six league games–having taken 14 points from a possible 18.

Sabri Lamouchi's side will likely be hoping for a repeat of the result from the reverse fixture, which saw Ben Watson's decisive goal ensure they took all three points at the City Ground.

A victory this evening would catapult either side up to third and could close the gap on the top two if results elsewhere go their way.

Lamouchi's squad look in much better health than their hosts this evening, with just full-back Tendayi Darikwa missing due to injury.

They may also be buoyed by January signing Adam Diakhaby, who could make his first appearance for the Reds after joining from Huddersfield Town.

Forest are reportedly close to a second signing, Strasbourg forward Nuno Da Costa, but for tonight's game, they will likely be reliant on the goals of Lewis Grabban, who has 16 to his name already.

Brentford, on the other hand, may have limited options for tonight's game. In addition to long term injuries, such as Sergi Canos and Nikolaos Karelis, they may be without captain Pontus Jansson and Mathias Jensen both of whom have not featured since the 3-1 win against QPR.

Saïd Benrahma is also doubtful as his father died last week.

That would certainly weaken their side but they've still got the forward firepower–Watkins (18 goals and three assists), Bryan Mbeumbo (11 goals and four assists), and Josh Dasilva (six goals and three assists)–to cause some real issues for Lamouchi's men.

This evening's game provides both sides with an opportunity to show their strength ahead of the Championship run-in and it looks to be an entertaining affair.
