Brentford will be aiming to build on another top half finish next season.

The Bees finished the season in ninth place after a promising finish was scuppered in the last few games, which left them six points adrift of the play-offs.

In Dean Smith, they have one of the top managers in the division due to his ability to produce results while maintaining an exciting, attacking style of play.

Brentford have an extensive scouting network which allows them to find talented prospects in other countries and lower divisions and sell them on a profit.

However, they could find some players in the Premier League who would be suitable for the team without being too expensive.

Here are five players that would fit in well at Griffin Park...

Roberts spent the first half of the season on loan at Middlesbrough where he was largely restricted to the bench with only one appearance before his loan spell was terminated. However, Carlos Carvalhal opted to keep him at Swansea for the second part of the season and gave him four opportunities in the league.

He is still likely to be low down the pecking order next season, so a loan spell or even a move away would be a good move for him. Brentford are the ideal club for young talent to develop, and he needs consistent playing time which the Swans are unlikely to give even in the Championship. His versatility adds to his usefulness because he is able to play as a full-back or right midfielder.

Haidara didn't have his contract extended by Newcastle based on their retained list for next season. The 25-year-old barely featured for the Magpies last season because he only made one substitute appearance in the league as well as an FA Cup game.

His availability as a free agent has the potential to make him a bargain because Brentford could bring him into the team, develop him and then sell him on. However, the lack of playing time in recent seasons is an issue. Although he does experience of playing in the Premier League and Ligue 1.

Sabiri was bought from FC Nuremberg last summer by Huddersfield Town for £1.35m, but has only featured five times in the league and 10 in total for the club. The Moroccan midfielder is a talented prospect, but doesn't appear to have David Wagner's full confidence.

This could be an opportunity for the Bees to sneak in and get him for a cheap fee because Wagner is only likely to add personnel in this transfer window, so Sabiri's route into the first-team will have more obstacles. The promise of regular first-team football could be enough to convince him to move down divisions.

Leko is a talented winger currently playing for the Baggies, but neither Alan Pardew or Darren Moore were willing to give him opportunities last season. He spent the first half of the season at Bristol City where he managed one assist in 11 games.

The 19-year-old needs a manager who can trust him, so Smith would be the ideal candidate. Brentford have the ideal structure to aid his development and get him consistently playing for the first-team. He came through the West Brom youth set-up, but he now has to think of his own individual career needs.

Sobhi could be expensive to bring in and they might have competition for his signature, but he would be worth it. He has the quality to help spearhead a play-off push next season while also being the right age to develop substantially in the next few seasons, so he could be sold on for a decent profit.

The Egyptian winger only scored twice in 24 league appearances this season, but he was in a struggling Stoke side that struggled creatively and had a lot of upheaval. Playing in a stable environment such as Brentford should suit him and allow him to flourish in the attacking freedom he would be given.
