Brentford transfer round-up: Arsenal target Toney, Siriki Dembele update, attacking signing secured

It could be an important January transfer window for Brentford.
With Thomas Frank’s side well in the hunt for the automatic promotion places at the midway stage of the Championship season, getting their business right this month could be key to them securing a place in the Premier League next season.
Perhaps not surprisingly therefore, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding the club’s transfer activities over the past few days, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.
Here, we’ve taken a look at some of the big transfer stories to have broken around Brentford recently, in our latest transfer round-up.
Ivan Toney targeted
He may have only joined Brentford in the summer, but it seems striker Ivan Toney is already starting to attract significant interested from elsewhere.
Toney has scored 16 goals in 22 league appearances since joining the Bees from Peterborough, so it is probably no surprise that reports linking the 24-year-old to the Premier League are starting to emerge.
According to a report from The Express, Arsenal are starting to take an interest in Toney following his recent performances, with the Gunners said to be admirers of the former Newcastle man, potentially setting things up for a bid from Mikel Arteta’s side at some point in the near-future.
Are these 15 Brentford facts genuine or not?
Dembele links dismissed
It seems as though there is still much to be decided with regards to Siriki Dembele’s future at Peterborough, despite supposed interest from Brentford, among others.
Recent reports from The Sun had claimed that the Bees are among those interested in the attacker who is said to have recently handed in a transfer request at The London Stadium.
However, it now seems as though those links with Brentford could be wide of the mark, with Peterborough’s Director of Football Barry Fry claiming they have had no contact with the Championship club, while insisting his own side have no intention of losing their key players this month.
Ghoddos signing confirmed
One deal that Brentford have already completed over the past few days, is the permanent signing of Saman Ghoddos.
The attacker joined Brentford on loan from French top-flight side Amiens back in the summer transfer window, and has since made 19 appearances in all competitions, scoring once.
Now it seems as though Brentford have seen enough to decide they want the 27-year-old permanently, with the Bees announcing that the attacker has signed a deal until the end of the 2022/23 season, with the option of extending that by a further 12 months.
