Brentford are interested in making a potential move for Hibernian forward Kevin Nisbet in the summer transfer window as a potential replacement for Ivan Toney, according to The Scottish Sun.

Nisbet is a player that has been attracting plenty of interest throughout the campaign, and Birmingham City were knocked back in their efforts to sign him during the winter window. That meant he has remained with the Scottish side and he has gone on to register 14 goals in his 32 appearances in the Scottish Premier League this term.

The striker has been in good form over the last few weeks and he has managed to register three goals in his last four appearances to take his tally of goals in all competitions to 17. However, he did miss their last game against St Johnstone through injury. He is, though, expected to be fit enough to feature in their forthcoming Scottish Cup semi-final against Dundee United.

The Scottish Sun report that Brentford are now weighing up whether to make a move for the forward with the Bees having been keeping tabs on him throughout the campaign. It is thought that Nisbet could be being eyed up as a potential replacement for Toney, who is believed to be on the radar of Chelsea and West Ham and available for around £35 million.

The verdict

This seems like potentially a very good signing for Brentford to make this summer, with Nisbet a forward with a lot of ability and the potential to be developed even further before he reaches his prime years. The striker has had a very good campaign with Hibernian and would therefore arrive full of belief and confidence.

Brentford are the one club in the Championship who you would believe are well placed to bring in strikers and identify the next prolific scorer off the conveyor belt. The Bees’ success rate with bringing in quality options in the final third means that if they back Nisbet then you would have to feel it is a good signing for them to make.

Given that Toney seems likely to be heading for an exit in the summer if Brentford do not earn promotion to the Premier League, then a move for Nisbet would make a lot of sense. However, there is going to be interest from other sides so the Bees will need to work hard to sign him.
