Brentford take action as Tottenham join transfer race for Championship star

Premier League side Brentford have stepped up their pursuit of Hull City star Keane Lewis-Potter after showing interest back in the summer, as per a report from The Sun.

The Bees launched an £8m offer for the 20-year-old in the summer after seeing the wide man impress in League One, scoring 13 goals in 43 appearances and proving to be integral to the Tigers’ return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Lewis-Potter has made the step up to the second tier seamlessly, once again establishing himself as a key figure at the MKM Stadium with nine goal contributions in 26 second-tier displays this term.

Quiz: Have each of these 25 ex-Derby County players ever played in the Premier League?

Has former Derby County man Will Hughes ever played in the Premier League?

Not only has he played as a winger, but also as a wing-back in Grant McCann’s successful 3-4-1-2 system and up top, operating on both wings and proving to be a versatile option for the Northern Irishman to utilise.

After seeing him impress in recent months, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered the race for the 20-year-old’s signature, joining top-tier rivals Leicester City, Southampton and West Ham United in the running for his signature as well as Thomas Frank’s side.

As per The Sun, the latter are thought to have intensified their interest, with club scouts travelling to East Yorkshire in midweek to see him in action against Blackburn Rovers as the home side came out 2-0 winners.

Hull are currently bracing themselves for offers with this widespread top-tier interest failing to cease, although new owner Acun Ilicali is determined to keep one of his prized assets for now.

The Verdict:

If Lewis-Potter was to make a move away, Brentford seems the most sensible option at this stage due to the fact he’s likely to receive much more game time under Frank than he will under Antonio Conte in north London.

Tottenham haven’t exactly made themselves the most attractive team anyway with their mishandling of two fine talents in Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke, both of whom were expected to go on to big things following their respective moves from Fulham and Leeds.

However, their lack of game time has meant both haven’t been able to fulfil their potential and this should serve as a warning to the Hull ace.

A move to the Bees could be the best option then, although the fact they also seem to be pursuing Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson may be a deterrent to the winger who will not want to be sitting on the bench.

Because of this and the good atmosphere surrounding the club at this stage after Ilicali’s takeover this week, he should be looking to remain with his current side at this stage – and he may even be able to negotiate more lucrative terms with the Turkish businessman seemingly willing to invest.
