Brentford striker Ollie Watkins has said that he is 'really happy' at the West London club as Thomas Frank's side gear up to take on Cardiff City at Griffin Park tomorrow evening.

The 23-year-old has had an excellent season so far for the Bees, sitting second in the Championship top scorers chart with twelve league goals, also contributing with three assists.

Watkins was utilised on either wing as opposed to the No. 9 role last season, and with ten goals and eight assists, he was a success.

However, as Neal Maupay departed for Brighton & Hove Albion during the summer, Brentford head coach Thomas Frank put his faith in Watkins to be the sole striker, and the decision has paid off.

Watkins recently signed a new deal at the TW8 club in August, which keeps him at Brentford until June 2023.

Speaking to the Sky Sports EFL Podcast, Watkins was asked whether the recent new deal has got him fully focused on his football at Brentford, amid attention from elsewhere due to his excellent performances.

"I'm really happy here," Watkins said.

"I think this is the best chance this year out of any year of doing something really special. As you can see we don't concede many goals and as of late we've been scoring a lot."

"I'm enjoying it. I'm scoring. Even if I don't score, I'm happy for whoever else scores. There's a good team connection here," he added.

Watkins joined the club in July 2017 from Exeter City for a fee of £1.8 million, and has scored 35 goals for the Bees in 114 appearances.
