It's news that few Brentford fans would have wanted to hear but that they may well have been expecting - Chris Mepham is nearing an exit from the club.

The Bees have got some fine players in their squad and Welshman Mepham is one of them with him proving one of the better centre-backs in the league.

Indeed, his young age makes him a prime target for Premier League sides and, clearly, that is what has come to pass with Mark McAdam providing this update on Twitter:

What the fee is remains to be seen, of course, but it would appear that the defender is well on the way to a Premier League move and Brentford once again will have to adapt.

The Verdict

It's a familiar story for fans of the Bees.

Another one of their better performers is set to move on and they'll once again have to try and adapt and bring in someone that can do a similar job - whether that's a signing or from the club already.

They have a good track record of doing just that, though, so let's see if they can pull it off once again before the transfer deadline in just over a week from now.
