Brentford have had a tradition of strengthening their squad by bringing in players from Arsenal.

Wojciech Szczesny, Jon Toral and Nico Yennaris are three recent examples of players who either joined Brentford on loan from the Gunners or made a permanent transfer from North to West London.

There seems to be a mutual understanding between the clubs; perhaps Arsene Wenger is attracted by the Bees' style of play and deems it a suitable environment to nurture his young stars.

The target for Brentford this season will definitely be to mount a promotion challenge. They currently sit in 10th but a bit more consistency could fire them up towards the play-offs.

They have the makings of a good team so it is within their capabilities, especially if they use January to bolster their squad.

Dean Smith might look across the capital to Arsenal for some new players and here are TWO suggestions that he should be looking at...

Chuba Akpom

Arsenal's young striker Chuba Akpom is a hit and miss front man who will probably fall short of ever nailing down a first team spot with the Gunners.

Perhaps the 21-year-old should opt for a permanent move away then with his former loan club Brentford a suitable destination.

The England under-21 international is a strong striker who has the physical attributes to become successful in the game but he needs regular first team football.

Akpom could strike a formidable partnership with Scott Hogan.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

After an impressive loan spell with Ipswich Town last year, Brentford should be keeping their tabs on Ainsley Maitland-Niles' availability.

The England under-20 international is primarily a winger but he can play at right back too and he would provide some creativity in the Brentford midfield.

The 19-year-old is on the verge of the Arsenal first team and Wenger might sanction a loan move to a Championship club so that he can further his development.
