Sky Bet Championship outfit Brentford are close to securing their first two signings of the off season, with boss Dean Smith seemingly keen to get his summer business done quickly.

Romaine Sawyers

Walsall midfielder Romaine Sawyers and Gillingham defender John Egan are set to sign deals at Griffin Park when their contracts expire during the summer, Get West London has confirmed.

Sawyers is a player Bees boss Smith knows all too well having signed him for the Saddlers from West Bromwich Albion, with the player playing a prominent part in the League One side reaching the play-offs this season.

Tough tackling defender Egan is a former Republic of Ireland under-21 international and has been on Smith’s radar since the January transfer window, when he also tried to take him to Griffin Park.

The 23-year-old was part of the Gills squad who put up a real fight of reaching the League One play-offs, but came up short right at the death.

Brentford finished the season on the high last weekend with a 5-1 drubbing of Huddersfield, with the Bees securing a top half finish after a difficult start to the campaign.
