Brentford will continue to pursue Peterborough United's Ivan Toney this summer, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The 24-year-old striker has been the talk of a transfer throughout the season. He's so far scored 24 League One goals this season, and since January he's attracted interest from all across the world.

RB Leipzig are looking into a deal for the striker, whilst the likes of both Celtic and Rangers have declared an interest, as well as Brighton & Hove Albion - there's even been speculation of an MLS move for Toney, but it looks like Brentford, Celtic, Leipzig or West Brom will be his next destination.

Brentford were in the market for a striker last January. They missed out on Lyle Taylor, and the likelihood of him heading to Griffin Park looks to be decreasing.

But today, Nixon has reported that Brentford will reinstate their interest in Toney:

The Posh forward has been in excellent form this season. He's all the hallmark qualities of a striker who could perform at the top level, and with Brentford's recent form they could well be heading into the Premier League for next season.

Last month, Peterborough placed an £11 million price-tag on the striker. That sort of figure wouldn't suit Brentford's recent trend of recruitment, but should they make the step-up to the Premier League then they could yet have funds to spend.

The verdict

One thing is almost certain, and that is that Toney won't be playing for Posh next season. He's shown once again that he deserves to play at a higher level, and given the vast interest shown in him so far, Brentford would do superbly to land the striker.
