Brentford are set to be boosted by the return of Ollie Watkins this afternoon, with the influential striker looking likely to feature against Leeds United.

Dean Smith’s side head to Yorkshire this lunchtime to take on Leeds, who are flying under new head-coach, Marcelo Bielsa.

However, Brentford have also enjoyed a promising start to the season, with the Bees looking to stay in the play-off places heading into next week’s international break.

Their chance of doing that has been boosted, with Sky Sports’ match preview confirming that Watkins is available and could be involved at Leeds.

The 22-year-old missed the draw with Birmingham City with a toe injury, but in his 10 previous league appearances, he’s returned four goals and two assists, proving to be a menace in attack.

Watkins isn’t the only Brentford player returning, though, with Said Benrahma available after suspension.

Smith has a selection dilemma in goal too, with the Brentford boss contemplating whether to recall Daniel Bentley, who he dropped against Birmingham during the week.

Leeds will be without the likes of Barry Douglas, Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez and Patrick Bamford this afternoon, with injuries mounting against Bielsa at this early stage of the season.

The Verdict

This is a major boost for Brentford.

Watkins was missed against Birmingham and his return is going to make Brentford much more dangerous against Leeds.

With Leeds having so many injury problems, Watkins’ return could make Brentford favourites.
