Brentford winger, Ollie Watkins has been linked with a surprise move to Turkish giants, Besiktas according to TRT Sport.

The report claims that Besiktas are looking to sign the 23-year-old on loan, as they look to strengthen their depth in attacking areas.

Watkins scored ten league goals for Brentford last season as they finished 11th in the Championship table.

His good run of form seemingly hasn't gone unnoticed, although Besiktas' reported interest will come as a surprise to the majority of the Griffin Park faithful.

Watkins is contracted to Brentford until the summer of 2021, so the club will be in no rush to move him on anytime soon, especially when he is a key player for Thomas Frank's side.

He only missed five league games for the Bees in their league campaign, and is evidently seen as a crucial player going forward for future seasons.

It remains to be seen as to whether a formal approach to sign Watkins will be made by Besiktas, but Brentford will surely be doing everything they can to keep hold of him heading into next season.

The Scottish Sun have recently reported that Romaine Sawyers is attracting interest from Celtic, whilst Neal Maupay looks as though he is edging closer to a move to Sheffield United according to a report from The Sun.

So it's set to be an interesting summer ahead at Brentford, as they battle to keep their key players at the club as they target a top six finish in the Championship.

The Verdict:

This would be hugely frustrating for Brentford if they were to lose him before the season gets underway.

He's posed a real threat to the opposition with his direct style of play going forward, and Brentford surely won't be considering any loan offers for him.

Watkins is starting regularly for them and won't be contemplating a move elsewhere, especially to a team like Besiktas, who you would have thought, wouldn't be able to offer him regular minutes.
