According to Get West London, Dean Smith is keen to hold onto his best players at Brentford FC as he aims to mount a promotion challenge next season.

However, the policy at Brentford is that any player is for sale as long as the price suits the Bees.

This was evident in January, when they held firm and resisted bids from West Ham United for star striker Scott Hogan before accepting a deadline day bid from Aston Villa when their price was matched.

Brentford have had an inconsistent season, full of ups and downs, and this has culminated in them finishing in mid-table.

Since January, they have operated with an impressive and dynamic front three with the free scoring Dane Lasse Vibe spearheading the attack and speedy, skillful duo Sergi Canos and Jota playing on either side.

Smith wants to keep these star players and he said:

“We've discussed holding onto players.

"We've been building for a period.

"We've lost players, but for good money.

“A team evolves and it's an emerging team and we want to keep them here as long as we can.

“I think we've got a good nucleus of a team and we'll look to add it and strengthen it but this league is a tough league to target promotion straight away.

"You have to take groups of games and see how far you can go.”
