The Bees manager believes both players deserve more starts after their exceptional work on and off the pitch and Warburton, set to leave at the end of the season, has been left scratching his head on what to do over the matter.

Warburton told Get West London: ”Tommy is a fantastic pro and has been outstanding in training and deserves to start a lot more games as does Jon Toral.” However, Warburton recognises that consistency is key in the Sky Bet Championship and crucial if his side were to get promoted without him, using Burnley as his example.

”It’s very hard to make the change. Consistency in selection is really important. Burnley kept it very tight and what they’ve achieved. They’re doing it again in the Premier League. People like Jon Toral, Tommy Smith, Tony Craig – it shows the strength in depth we have in the squad.”

With seven games left, Brentford sit in seventh place in the Sky Bet Championship, one point behind Ipswich Town in the play-offs.

With games against Fulham and Nottingham Forest over the Easter weekend, they are sure to be crucial in determining the Bees’ outcome this season.

It is been a fantastic season for the London club and if they finish in the play-off spots it will be an incredible feat for a team that were in League One last season.
