Brentford boss Thomas Frank has claimed his side are confident they can beat Leeds United at Elland Road on Wednesday night.

The Bees have made an inconsistent start to the 2019/20 Championship campaign, losing against Barnsley, beating Middlesbrough and then drawing with Hull City.

They now travel to Leeds in midweek to face the current league leaders, who are unbeaten so far this season.

According to the Surrey Comet, Frank suggested he was confident his team could get a result.

He said: “I know we are only going to get better and better and better this season.

“It’s up to me to do it as quick as possible.

“I think the second-half performance at Middlesbrough fills me with confidence, the first half against Birmingham fills me with confidence, and the last 25 minutes against Hull fills me with confidence ahead of the Leeds tie.

“We played two games last year that were very even, we respect them, they play fantastic football.

“I admire the manager Marcelo Bielsa massively, but we are confident and believe we can go up there and win.”

Brentford will be likely led by ex-Leeds defender Pontus Jansson, who has been given the captain’s armband after joining from the west Yorkshire club this summer.

Frank indicated he was hoping that Jansson would be instrumental in securing a win for his new side.

He said: “The beautiful fairytale is we are winning 1-0 from a set piece and Pontus scores.

“We know its massively difficult to go up there, but we are looking forward to it.”

The Verdict

Brentford got the better of Leeds last season, beating them 2-0 at Griffin Park and securing a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

However, given the way the two sides have started this season, it will be a hard task for the Bees to come away from this game with three points.

Brentford made some significant changes to their squad this summer, including 10 additions and nine departures, and it appears they’re still trying to adapt to that.

Jansson’s return to Leeds is going to be an interesting one, especially as the Whites have looked slightly weak at defending set pieces without him.
