Brentford have announced that 20-year-old Danish right-back Mads Roerslev Rasmussen has signed a new four-year deal at the club.

The club confirmed the news on their website on Friday afternoon, which commits him to the west London outfit until 2024.

Roerslev has also been promoted from Brentford's B side to the first-team.

“We are very pleased that Mads has signed a new contract with us. He had made great progress since the summer and has shown the benefits of our B Team," Head Coach Thomas Frank said.

The defender joined Brentford from FC Copenhagen in August for an undisclosed fee, and made a good impression to B Team manager Neil MacFarlane.

So much so, that he was included in the first-team's matchday squad for the game against Queens Park Rangers in October.

Since then, Roerslev has gone on to feature ten times for the Bees this term, including five starts in all competitions.

His most recent appearance came against Luton Town, where he started the match as the Bees went down to a 2-1 defeat.

The 20-year-old has been capped by Denmark from under-17 to under-21 level, playing 37 games in total for his country in all age categories.

The Verdict

This is good news all round for the Bees, who have ensured one of their hottest prospects remains on their books for years to come.

Roerslev was tipped for big things when he arrived at the club in the summer, and has proved since then that he is more than capable of competing for a first-team place.

The club as well as the player himself will be hoping that he can continue to develop in the months and years ahead.
