Brentford have made a bid for highly-rated Gillingham defender John Egan, according to HITC.
The 23-year-old has made 72 appearances for the club, since signing in 2014, including starting 28 out of 29 of the Gills’ matches this term. He has helped them to second in the league table, just three points behind leaders Burton Albion.
Egan signed for the Kent club from Sunderland, after a series of unsuccessful loan spells between 2012 and 2014. Since then, he is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the division, and, with time on his side, he is thought to be able to go onto bigger and better things.
Last season, he won player of the year at the Priestfield Stadium. However, a move to Griffin Park would be a great one for Egan, as it would bring him closer to his dream of the Premier League.
Brentford are slightly disappointed with their season so far, in tenth place after they got into the play-offs last year. Their defensive record is worse than the teams around them, and is an area that many fans believe they should strengthen.
The Bees are also in the market for a defender after with James Tarkowski, who has been linked with a move away from the club for some time, set to move to Championship rivals Burnley.
