Sky Bet Championship side Brentford have made a club-record bid for Troyes forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to reports from French media outlet L'Equipe.

The 19-year-old has caught the eye over in France after a strong of impressive performances for the Ligue 2 side last season - the young forward scored 11 goals in a total of 39 appearances last term.

The attacker has been attracting interest from plenty of high-profile clubs since the end of the 2018/19 campaign, with Premier League side Southampton recently making an offer according to L'Equipe.

The same media outlet now claim that Brentford have made a club-record bid for Mbeumo, believed to be in the region of around £5.8million. Schalke and Rennes are also believed to be keen on the Frenchman.

The Bees are facing a real battle to keep hold of star-man Neal Maupay this summer, with Aston Villa and Sheffield United being linked with a move for the striker, who scored 28 goals last term.

Whether Mbeumo will become a replacement for Maupay or not remains to be seen, as Thomas Frank's side look to finish in the top six next season.

The Verdict

This is a typical Brentford signing, and there is no reason to suggest why Mbeumo can't be a success at Brentford if he arrived at Griffin Park.

He scored plenty of goals in Ligue 2 for a player of his age last season, and he would be looking to hit the ground running if he made the move to West London.

Brentford have a knack of finding these hidden gems from abroad, just look at how well Said Benrahma did for them last season after arriving from Nice.

They are building a very strong squad indeed, and if they signed Mbeumo, they could be the team to watch next term.
