Brentford defender, Pontus Jansson, has been ruled out of Sweden's latest fixtures after picking up a knock in the fixture against Nottingham Forest on the weekend.

The 28-year-old picked up a minor injury during Brentford's 1-0 defeat to an inform Forest side on Saturday.

The defender's withdrawal is a blow to Sweden who have two important international fixtures coming up. They face Spain and Malta in two European Qualifying matches as the teams get ready to discover their fate ahead of next year's tournament.

So far this season, Jansson has played every single minute of Brentford's Championship matches and has been part of a defence that has seen a remarkable improvement on last season.

The centre-half has helped the Bees to be more effective without the ball, as they've conceded just nine goals in the first 11 matches of the new season.

Jansson has 20 caps for his nation and will be hoping that this is just a minor injury that can see him return for next month's Sweden fixtures.

The Verdict

Jansson has been very good for Brentford so far this season and you can see a remarkable improvement in their defence compared to the last campaign.

He is a born leader and has started to show that for the Bees. He'll be gutted that he's out of Sweden's fixtures but I'm sure he'll be raring to go when the Championship season returns in two weeks' time.

He's a determined player and dedicated to his football so hopefully he shows that in his recovery from this minor knock.
