Brentford fans could have been forgiving for fearing the worst for their side when it was revealed that star player Sergi Canos had been ruled out for a significant period following a serious knee injury.

The former Liverpool winger had been in sparkling form for the Bees this term, contributing three assists in his first 11 Championship outings, thus proving to be one of his side's key attacking outlets.

However the Griffin Park faithful needn't have worried, with 20-year-old winger Bryan Mbeumo having stepped up in the absence of Canos brilliantly in recent weeks, with the summer signing from ES Troyes AC justifying Thomas Frank's decision to secure his services.

Mbeumo has already racked up four goals and three assists in his first 14 Championship outings, showcasing his undeniable talent for a player that is still in the fledgling years of his career.

His exploits in front of goal will have no doubt pleased the Brentford supporters, with the team having shown great reliance on the goals of Ollie Watkins so far this term, it is about time that someone else stepped up their game to provide support for the 23-year-old.

The young forward certainly provides an extra attacking edge to the Bees front three, with his skill and direct running creating space for others to exploit, thus giving the likes of Watkins and Said Benrahma more opportunites to lose their markers in the penalty area.

The Bees fans will be keen for Mbeumo to continue his strong form over the coming weeks and months as the west London outfit seek to move into the play-off spots, with Brentford currently sitting just four points off of sixth placed Bristol City.

Meanwhile the Bees return to home turf this weekend, as they take on an in-form Reading side at Griffin Park on Saturday.
